Beyond the stupidity of the load and how it is secured (or not), at not more than a few cents per pound for mixed steel scrap, I can’t imagine how there is enough of anything there to be worth hauling it anywhere for 5+ hours.

For one, each piece of cargo in excess of 5 feet needs at least two straps rated to a certain amount of capacity. It doesn’t appear that every car has two straps going to sufficient tie-down points. The pickup being used as a trailer would need current license plates and tags, registration if it applies. Typically crushed cars have netting to prevent debris from flying off, so if anything is inspected and found to be lose this will merit a citation. If it’s a commercial load, I think the driver would need a BoL with a total GVWR, and if over 26,000lbs a CDL and appropriate insurance.
Just off the top of my head.

Oh wow, I didn’t realize there was that much regulation in this sort of thing—I’m certainly glad there is. Thanks for the info.

Kind of. Especially northern Wisconsin. I swear drunk driving is a sport up there.

Just to add to the lunacy, the truck also had 3 bald tires and completely sheered leaf springs.

It is, definitely, I just think it gets more prevalent the further north you go.

Nah, we’re like the Massachusetts of the mid-west. They’re Massholes and we’re FIBs.

Oh, and the strap holding the Taurus onto the old C/K pickup is hooked onto the pickup’s door handle - pretty sure they aren’t rated for that kind of weight.
